To ensure that your CPF funds are distributed according to your wishes, it is important to update your CPF nomination in the event of any change in your circumstances, such as during these key life stages:
If you have made a CPF nomination before your marriage, it will be revoked upon your marriage. You are encouraged to make a new CPF nomination if you want your CPF savings to be distributed according to your wishes. If no new nomination is made, your CPF savings will be distributed by the Public Trustee's Office (PTO) in accordance with the intestacy laws or inheritance certificate (for Muslims) in Singapore when you are no longer around. The PTO charges your beneficiaries an administration fee for the distribution of your CPF savings.
#2. Just given birth
Your original CPF nomination still stands. You can make a new nomination if you wish to include your child as a nominee.
#3. Death of nominee(s)
You can consider making a new nomination to readjust the share allocation for your surviving nominee(s) or to include new nominee(s). If no new nomination is made the deceased nominee's share will be redistributed to the surviving nominee(s) in the same proportion as specified in the nomination.
Example of the redistribution of deceased nominee's share to surviving nominees
CPF nomination ||
Distribution of CPF savings after death of nominee A|
Nominee A – 50%
Nominee B – 30%
Nominee C – 20%
Nominee B – 60% [30% + 60% of nominee A's share]
Nominee C – 40% [20% + 40% of nominee A's share]
If there are no surviving nominee(s), we will transfer your CPF savings to the PTO for distribution to your family member(s) in accordance with the intestacy laws or inheritance certificate (for Muslims) in Singapore. The PTO charges your beneficiaries an administration fee for the distribution of your CPF savings.
You can consider making a new nomination in view of your latest marital status.
